Plagiarism Screening
JDEAE (Journal of Digital Education Applied Research) maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism. We are committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record and ensuring that all published articles are original and free from unethical practices.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
JDEAR considers plagiarism as the unacknowledged use of another person's work, ideas, or words. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Verbatim copying: Copying text word-for-word from another source without using quotation marks or proper citation.
-
Paraphrasing: Changing the words of an original source but keeping the sentence structure or core idea without citing the source.
-
Self-Plagiarism (Text Recycling): Reusing significant parts of one's own previously published work without proper citation or justification.
2. Screening Tools
To prevent plagiarism, all submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin, a leading plagiarism detection software.
3. Screening Process
The screening process is conducted in two stages:
-
Initial Screening: Immediately after submission and before the manuscript is sent to reviewers. Manuscripts failing this check will be desk-rejected.
-
Pre-Publication Screening: After acceptance and before the final publication (to ensure no plagiarized content was added during revision).
4. Similarity Thresholds and Actions
The Editorial Board has set a maximum similarity index of 20%. The decision based on the Turnitin/iThenticate report is categorized as follows:
-
Similarity Index < 20%: The manuscript proceeds to the review process (provided that the similarity is not concentrated in one specific section or source).
-
Similarity Index > 20%: The manuscript will be rejected immediately without review.
Note on References: The Editor carefully examines the similarity report. Matches found in the References/Bibliography section or standard phrases (e.g., technical terms in physics equations) may be excluded from the count at the Editor's discretion. However, the core content (Introduction, Results, Discussion) must be original.
5. Sanctions
If plagiarism is detected:
-
Before Publication: The manuscript will be rejected. The author may be banned from submitting to JDEAR for a specific period.
-
After Publication: The article will be retracted in accordance with our Retraction Policy, and a public notice will be issued.
